Frequently Asked Questions

Who Does NMES Serve?

We extend our assistance to individuals and families residing in the Neenah-Menasha region. Additionally, we provide support to families with children enrolled in local schools, regardless of their current residence, particularly when they face crises that require urgent help.

What are the Areas of Assistance?

Our organization focuses on core needs including but not limited to housing assistance to prevent homelessness, utility bills to maintain essential services, transportation and various necessities. We also cater to students identified by local schools as in need, providing vital supplies like backpacks, shoes, winter clothing, and more to help them succeed academically.

How Does NMES Provide Help?

Assistance requests must be initiated by a referring agency, such as social services or schools. These agencies must verify the client's needs align with our mission and submit the necessary information through our request form. Upon approval, funds are directed to the relevant creditors to ensure immediate support.

What is the Criteria for Assistance?

Each request is evaluated based on urgency, demonstrating that the situation constitutes an emergency regarding shelter, food, clothing, or health. We also consider whether the applicant has accessed other forms of assistance and if our support complements existing community resources while fostering a sustainable solution.

Can Someone be Assisted More Than Once?

While there are no strict limits on the number of times an individual or family can receive assistance, each case is tracked and assessed individually. Our focus remains on the specific needs presented during each request, ensuring equitable support for all.

What is the Referral Process?

To maintain an organized and effective support system, only referring agencies can submit requests on behalf of clients. This approach enables us to gather the necessary information and collaborate efficiently with those directly assisting the individuals in need.

What is the Response Time?

In urgent situations, we strive to review requests quickly, often making decisions within days. For less immediate needs, our board discusses the cases at monthly meetings, ensuring that support is timely yet thorough.
